Kata training with Alasger IJKA
‘Preparation then action’
Preparation and then action is one piece of advice given by Shihan Kato when practicing kata and this was the focus of training when we visited the Alsager dojo.
You must know why you do every move in a kata and practice the bunkai (application). Without this a kata has no meaning and it can be more like a dance than a martial art. Practicing with partners is a great help for when you train on your own as it is easier to visualise the moves and position of your opponent.
Our training focused on the finer details and bunkai of Chinte and Hangestu.
Thank you to Sensei Mark Watts for organising the training and to Dave Sanderson for the additional instruction. It was a great benefit to all those who attended so it must be repeated.
