Jion Kata application.........

Whilst Tuesday and Thursday club sessions are aimed at the diverse range of students studying Karate, Sunday mornings for myself are the jewel in the clubs crown for detail study of our art.

For example, in recent months the club has been stretching to loosen up those joints that are valuable to allow more effective use of ones body in executing techniques.
The sessions also allow the detailed study of understanding Kata and unlocking the code within a system of moves to understand this key element of Karate.
If you miss out one of these elements (Kihon - basics, Kata - drills, and Kumite - sparring), you will miss much knowledge and application of the system of Karate- do.

Jion is the Kata shown here with Sensei's Dave and Kev who are studying and experimenting with the significant moves withing this system.
Here, Sensei Dave has taken control of his enemies attacking arm and has locked the joint at the same time as pulling on the arm and expanding his own chest to gain further compliance and control of his attacker. He is of course also defending himself further by striking out at his attacker at the same time.
The above is one of many conclusions that can be drawn from Kata to suit your build, skill level and of course the situation at the time, which is why Sundays is the jewel in the week for learning and experimentation.

Pictured above are 1st Kyu grades Andrew and Antonio who are getting stuck into the finer detail of understanding the true meaning of Kata.
